Assessment
Employs dark heterotrophic fermentation of thermo-acidophilic red microalgae on zero-cost food waste to produce heat-stable natural blue pigment. The extreme cultivation conditions (pH 2.0, 55°C) eliminate the need for costly steam sterilization while bypassing light-limited photobioreactors. Thermostability up to 70°C unlocks massive penetration into pasteurized food and beverage markets.
A rejection is not a claim that the science is wrong. It means the venture case did not survive: the comparator was not what the buyer actually buys, the comparison was not like-for-like, the advantage fell short of a step change, or the capital and time to first revenue were prohibitive.
